I bet you ever tried any diet to lose some weight and get your body in better shape. Whether it worked or not, we prefer to consider diet as a “get-it-fast” solution, so their popularity seems to never diminish.

And there is definitely amazing number of diets, whether “fad” or comprehensive dieting programs, but it is always hard for us to know for sure which diet works. You know, they all claim the weight loss success but it is obvious that there are no hundreds ways all equally effective and successful.

The aim of my article is to show you the red flags on diets that will help you not to plump into ineffective diet schemes and avoid possible health risks.

Red flag #1 - “extreme weight loss”

First thing that should make you alert is drastic weight loss promises. At the initial diet stages your weight loss will actually be great, but that is mostly water weight . But you will lose more than 2 pounds a week after the initial stage, you are at risk of losing your muscle mass, that will also slow down your metabolism.

Losing your muscle mass also means losing the opportunity to burn more calories, as the more muscle mass requires more calories to maintain.

Losing your muscle mass instead of fats is a no-no to your health, so listen to experts that advice to lose weight slowly and gradually. Remember, it is the best way to melt your fats instead of muscles.

Red flag #2 - “diet with magic formula”

Another point of concern is diet that relies upon some “special” supplement or cream or the product like that. If you see “no food control or exercise required” - that’s it!

If a diet makes you buy additional products - be aware because it seems just like the “credible” way to sell some hype product. We all should know really effective weight loss supplements - prescription diet pills or several natural weight loss pills, but no magic weight loss that you can expect - diet pills action is limited and you can use it just like initial support in your weight loss, no amazing results to expect!

Red flag #3 - “eat only what we tell you”

That kind of diet is also a winner among diets-losers. If a diet relies upon eating special foods, that not fit into your usual lifestyle, you will not benefit from it. Imagine yourself working full-time, having psychological stresses and sticking only to, say, exotic fruit. Or eating only 1 time per day and only restricted portions. Don’t you feel that something wrong is going to happen with your body. And it doesn’t seem like successful weight loss.

Red flag #4 - “only 300 calories a day!”

That type of diet is similar to the above mentioned, and it promises nothing but making you hungry, cranky, irritating and with a headache even! Seriously, don’t put your body to that torture.

Red flag #5 - “your easiest way to lose weight”

Avoid diets that promise you effortless way to lose weight. Whatever it could be. Losing weight and dieting in particular requires effort, and the more effort you put the better results you achieve. Of course it doesn’t mean you have to die in perspiration in order to melt another pound of excess weight, but there are definitely on effortless, easy yet effective diets.

Final suggestions - what diet to choose?

The best way is choosing comprehensive and serious diet plan that is well known, clinically or medically backed, and has many successful results. Under “successful” I mean people that lost their weight and remained healthy or even become more healthy. You can also read some serious books on proper dieting, preferably written by professional dieticians or MDs.

Anyway, stay away from the diets I’ve talked about in order not to spend your health and money for magic formulas and programs that will not work.
